What are the BHSc major options?
There are two BHSc majors available:
You must be enrolled in at least one of the above majors. You may also choose to take both BHSc majors as a double major or one of the BHSc majors alongside the Bachelor of Science major in Nutrition.
Unsure about which major(s) you want to study?
We recommend enrolling in the Stage I introductory course for each BHSc major in your first year of study. This will give you a better idea of the content of each major and allow you to keep your options open.
- Community Health major: POPLHLTH 113: Introduction to Community Health
- Health Systems and Data Analytics major: POPLHLTH 112: Introduction to Health Systems and Data Analytics
If you would like to change your major selection, you can do so yourself through Student Services Online from Monday 2 November after you start enrolling. For more information on how, visit the How to change your plan page.

Choosing a General Education (GenEd) course for the BHSc
Within your BHSc degree, you are required to choose one General Education (GenEd) course. You can take your GenEd at any time during the degree, including in your first year of study in one of your elective course spaces.
Your GenEd is an opportunity to explore subjects beyond your degree; you're strongly encouraged to consider options that align with your interests and strengths.
General Education restrictions
You cannot take a General Education course in the same subject code as any non-General Education course that you take in your degree.
Some GenEd restrictions specific to the BHSc are listed below.
- BHSc students cannot take POPLHLTH 103G.
- BIOSCI 100G cannot be taken by students taking BIOSCI 107.
- EXERSCI 100G, MEDSCI 100G and 101G cannot be taken by students taking MEDSCI 142.
- PHARMACY 111G (if you intend to apply for the Bachelor of Pharmacy)
For a full list of what you can choose from, check the ‘General Education Courses’ list under the ‘Schedule/Programme Rules’ on the BHSc Curriculum page.
