Overview

If you already have a degree, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the University of Auckland, you can qualify to become a teacher after just one year of full-time study at graduate diploma level.

Over the year you will study educational theory and practice and learn about the New Zealand curriculum specific to your area of teaching or subject area. You will undertake practical experience in schools or centres (depending on your specialisation) and work alongside experienced teachers to develop your teaching practice.

Choose to study either Early Childhood Education, Primary teaching or Secondary teaching depending on your qualification(s) and area of interest.*

*Note: If you want to study to become a secondary school teacher your previous degree must link to secondary school subjects and the curriculum courses you choose to study must be aligned to that.
