About Velocity

Velocity is New Zealand’s leading university start-up development programme, run as a free co-curricular opportunity for students and staff of all faculties of the University of Auckland.

Velocity has been operating for 22 years, and was created to help advance New Zealand’s economic, social and environmental prosperity through creating generations of innovators and entrepreneurs.

Dealing with ambiguity, working in teams, creative problem solving, global views and confidence are the foundation of an entrepreneurial mindset. We also believe these are the capabilities needed to thrive in this new world of work, whether a person decides to work in a large global corporate or an emerging start-up.

Our goal is to enhance skills which we know will future-proof careers and enable people to better navigate their way in an increasingly complex and changing world.

Join Velocity to build a venture idea, your career potential and your networks!

How Velocity works

Each year, the Business School’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) recruits and trains a student committee of around 30 student volunteers to work in partnership with CIE to design and deliver that year’s Velocity offerings.

The programme then opens up opportunities to hundreds of other student and staff participants from all faculties to develop their potential. Velocity achieves this through offering a year-long schedule of talks, workshops, events and challenges – including an ideas competition and a robust start-up planning competition.
