Ongoing hoax bomb threats
Thursday 18 June 2026
Along with other organisations across the country, the University continues to receive hoax bomb threats, sent to publicly visible organisational and individual email addresses.
The University is working closely with New Zealand Police on this issue, and while they are treating the threats as not credible, we acknowledge the emails are still upsetting to the people who receive them.
Steps are being taken to counter these threats, including intercepting emails from known email addresses. However, experience in recent weeks is that the perpetrators are using different sending addresses, meaning some threatening emails might still get through.
If you receive one of these emails, please forward it immediately to our Security team at city.security@auckland.ac.nz, who will assess the threat and respond accordingly.
We acknowledge the concerns and disruption to study and work that events like this cause and want to remind you about the support offered for staff through the Employee Assistance Programme [staff intranet], and students through Te Papa Manaaki, Campus Care.
Thank you for your patience as the University works to resolve the situation.
