Couples and Families

Accommodation is available for couples in the following residences. If you are coming with children please see family information below. Only one member of the couple needs to have a full-time active enrollment - this person needs to make the couple application on behalf of the couple. 

55 Symonds

Room type: Studio Deluxe Double

Located on the corner of Symonds and Wakefield Street, 55 Symonds is a short walk from the General Library. It offers 28 self-contained Studio Deluxe Double rooms, suitable for couples. Each apartment has a private en-suite bathroom, kitchen and all rooms are fully furnished. For more information, see 55 Symonds. 

Waikohanga House

Room type: One-bedroom apartment

Waikohanga House is a newly refurbished accommodation for postgraduate couples and families located on Symonds Street. It offers 26 self-contained One bedroom apartments each with their own private en-suite bathroom, kitchen and lounge. One Bedroom apartments can also accommodate a couple with a newborn under 12 months. For more information, see Waikohanga House.

The following criteria apply to family Accommodation:

Family Accommodation is intended for a University of Auckland student who is studying full-time and is coming with their partner and/or children. Families can only apply for a 52-week term. 

• A one-bedroom apartment can only accommodate up to 2 adults and an infant under 12 months.
• A two-bedroom family apartment can only accommodate up to two adults and one child under the age of 15; OR two adults and one child under the age of five, and an infant under 12 months.  
• A three-bedroom family apartment can only accommodate up to two adults and two children under the age of 15; OR two adults and two children under the age of five, and an infant under 12 months.

If your children will exceed the age criteria above prior or while you are residing within University Accommodation, you will no longer be able to stay in that apartment. Depending on availability, we will endeavour to move your family to an appropriately sized apartment, however as we only have limited apartments we recommend looking at private accommodation options for the date at which you no longer meet the above criteria. Please keep this in mind when making an application for Family Accommodation. 

Carlaw Park Student Village

Room type: Two-bedroom apartment

Located adjacent to the Auckland Domain and only a 8 minute walk from the Owen G. Glenn Building, Carlaw Park offers 16 self-contained two bedroom apartments suitable for small families. Each apartment has a private en-suite bathroom, kitchen and all rooms are fully furnished. For more information, see Carlaw Park Student Village.

Waikohanga House

Room type: Two & three-bedroom apartment

Waikohanga House is a newly refurbished accommodation for postgraduate couples and families located on Symonds Street. It offers 18 two bedroom and 5 three bedroom apartments each with their own private en-suite bathroom, kitchen and lounge. In addition there are 26 one bedroom apartments which can also accommodate a couple with a newborn under 12 months. For more information, see Waikohanga House.
