Hosting inclusive and sustainable events

Sustainable event guide

Planning tips:

  • Identify environmental impacts early
  • Apply Sustainable Events Guide recommendations

It is important to identify any major environmental impacts your event could cause. Early identification of these key areas allows you time to rethink any event component that may be affected.

Staff and students across the University must use the Sustainable Events Guide to support sustainable event planning and delivery.

Hosting inclusive events

Planning tips:

  • Ensure safety, accessibility, and inclusion are considered from the outset
  • Use the Hosting Inclusive Events and Conferences Checklist

Event owners and organisers are responsible for delivering events that are safe, inclusive, and accessible for all participants. This includes, for example, venues that are physically accessible, providing inclusive catering that reflects cultural and dietary needs and making appropriate arrangements such as seating for ‘stand-up’ events.

Inclusive event planning requires proactive preparation and thoughtful representation, including diverse perspectives reflected in the organising committee and in the speaker selection. For more detailed guidance, refer to the Hosting Inclusive Events and Conferences Checklist.
