Programme overview

This qualification gives students who have completed a three-year engineering degree the opportunity to build on their previous skills, and understand the principles, concepts and ideas that underpin a chosen specialisation. It is designed to provide a pathway to further study in a masters programme.

Programme structure

Our Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering offers you an opportunity for advanced technical training and continued professional development. You can structure your learning by selecting courses in your specific field of expertise. The postgraduate diploma will be awarded endorsed in one of the disciplines listed further below, and can often lead to a masters degree.

Specialisations (endorsed)
Of the 120 points required for the PGDipEng a student must pass a minimum of six courses (90 points) from one of the specialisations listed below, and two courses (30 points) from other relevant courses; selected from the schedules for the Master of Civil Engineering, Master of Engineering Studies or Master of Professional Engineering (excluding dissertation, research portfolio and research project courses).

Subject to meeting degree requirements, graduates can also transfer to an Engineering masters programme.

You'll also need to meet other requirements, including time limits and total points limits. See Postgraduate enrolment.

For all official programme information, including regulations about entry, enrolment, fees, examinations, and requirements for degrees, diplomas and certificates, see the University Calendar.

Where could this programme take you?

The PGDipEng functions largely as a pathway for further study – while it can generally increase employment opportunities, this qualification ultimately supplements your three-year undergraduate degree with the additional skills needed to pursue an engineering masters degree.
