Aotearoa New Zealand's global university
Our partnerships extend what we contribute to the world. As Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading university, we work with partner institutions, networks and communities to reach further in research, education and innovation.
Our approach is purpose-driven and values-led. We ground our work in our values and te ao Māori principles. We build lasting relationships that are mutually beneficial and share a commitment to a fairer, more sustainable and more prosperous future.
We choose partnerships that match our strengths and ambitions. We look for those that advance world-class research shaped by our place in Aotearoa and the Pacific. These partnerships also help address global challenges and align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
These partnerships create real opportunities for our students and staff. They span transnational education programmes, global research initiatives and mobility experiences. Together they build intercultural skills and prepare our people for the world.
Our closest strategic partnerships rest on long-term alignment and shared purpose. They enable collaboration across disciplines and sectors, strengthen our research ecosystem and prepare our graduates to make the world a better place.
Networks
We belong to three respected global networks of research-intensive universities.
The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU)
APRU links leading universities across the the Americas, Asia and Australasia. Its members bring together thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers from to exchange ideas and collaborate on solutions to the challenges of the 21st century.
Researchers can join the Pacific Rim Challenges working groups. Staff can take part in leadership and capacity-building programmes. The network also offers opportunities for students.
Universitas 21 (U21)
U21 joins leading, research-led universities across six continents. Members share best practice in education and research. The network also supports career growth and brings members together around the challenges facing higher education.
U21 helps staff, students and researchers to connect, and work together though workshops, funding opportunities, communities of practice, collaborative projects and peer-to-peer learning.
Worldwide Universities Network (WUN)
WUN connects 24 leading research-intensive universities to work together on research and education with a focus on major global challenges.
Academic staff may apply for the annual WUN Research Development Fund.
Transnational education partnerships
We work with trusted international institutions to deliver high‑quality transnational education (TNE) programmes. These open access to a globally recognised University of Auckland qualification.
Students can start their studies in their home country and finish their programme at the University of Auckland. Some study through an approved shared-delivery model instead. We design each TNE programme with care to ensure they meet our quality standards and academic equivalence and the student experience is seamless.
Our TNE models include:
- Credit transfer arrangements
- Articulation pathways
- Foundation and pathway programmes
- Dual masters programmes
These models give international students academic continuity, a global learning experience and the opportunity to graduate with a University of Auckland qualification, backed by strong partnerships and consistent standards.
