The terms UPI and NetID to be replaced with username

All students at the University of Auckland have a unique personal identifier (UPI), it is a similar to your ID number. A UPI can be used for activities like logging into University systems or as way for staff to access your record when you contact the Student Support Team.

Feedback from students has been that the terms “UPI” and “NetID” are not well known or understood. We have heard your feedback and decided to make it better and simpler. To improve clarity around what a UPI is, the University has decided to rename this identifier to username, which is a common term that is more easily and widely understood.

Work is now underway through the various faculties and service divisions to implement this change. We will replace the terms “UPI” and “NetID” everywhere we find them with "username".
