ACC work-related injury management yearly update

The University is an accredited employer in the ACC Partnership Programme. This means that we have been able to manage workplace injuries and co-ordinate the rehabilitation and return to work of injured employees more effectively.

This means we have stepped into the shoes of ACC to manage our employee work-related injury claims. To assist us with this process we have contracted Wellnz to manage the registration and lodgement of claims.

All Employees Responsibilities

Reporting

  • Report the incident to your Line Manager at the time it occurs
  • Complete an online incident report on the day of the incident

Access treatment if required

  • Visit an ACC registered treatment provider who will lodge an injury claim if necessary
  • Inform the treatment provider that work injury claims are managed by Wellnz, on behalf of the University of Auckland (UoA) and ask them treatment provider to send the invoice for your treatment, with a copy of your ACC injury claim form directly to Wellnz

Treatment costs

  • Up to four physiotherapy sessions are authorised in advance during the processing of an injury claim. After the claim's approval, you will have access to further physiotherapy treatments, which will be covered by the UoA, subject to any review
  • You should wait until your claim is approved prior to seeking any additional treatments or tests, your case manager will discuss this with you. The UoA will pay the full cost, including surcharges, for approved medical appointments and treatments
  • UoA will pay for the full cost of any prescribed medications relating to the work injury claim
  • Wellnz will be able to assist you with queries about treatment costs

Managers Responsibilities

  • Refresh your knowledge of the injury management and rehabilitation process yearly by watching the online video. (4 minutes). Note: This is an ACC requirement, and your completion of the session is recorded and presented at our yearly ACC external audit
