Chancellor comment on University property purchase

Thursday 22 October 2020

University of Auckland Chancellor Scott St John has confirmed that the University Council will consider a recommendation to sell a University property purchased in December 2019 to accommodate its new Vice-Chancellor and to host University events.

It is a common practice for universities to provide such accommodation for Vice-Chancellors. The Chancellor says the property was bought in anticipation of Professor Freshwater’s arrival to take up her role in late March this year. The property was purchased to replace another house owned by the University to accommodate the Vice-Chancellor.

Mr St John acknowledges the recommendation of Professor Freshwater to sell this property, which reflects the financial constraints facing the University and uncertainties with Covid-19.
