What does wellbeing mean?

Wellbeing is the combination of feeling good and functioning effectively.

Did you know that a strong sense of wellbeing has been linked to improved academic outcomes? Yay!

But wellbeing is not about feeling happy all of the time. An important part of anyone's wellbeing journey is the acceptance of negative emotions and experiences, and managing these factors successfully.

It can help to think about “being well” as something you do, rather than something you are. The more you put into your own personal health and happiness, the more you are likely to get out.

Research often cites five ways to wellbeing, which are simple actions proven to make a positive impact. Here at the University of Auckland, we have taken these basic principles and added three more, which hold particular relevance to students.
