About exams

At the University of Auckland, there are five different modes of exams.

When we use mode, mode means the way in which you will complete your exam such as online or in-person. 

Most exams are online and non-invigilated. There are, however, a number of exams that are taking place:

  • In-person, on campus; both paper-based and Inspera Assessment
  • Online using digital invigilation (Inspera Integrity Browser, previously Inspera Exam Portal)

How you will access your exam depends on the mode of your exam. It’s important that you check the mode used for each of your exams.

Exam modes

The five exam modes:

  • Exam mode A - Remote online non-invigilated exam on Inspera
  • Exam mode B - Remote online invigilation through Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB)
  • Exam mode C - In-person invigilated exam on paper
  • Exam mode D - In-person invigilated exam on computer
  • Exam mode E - In-person invigilated exam on computer through Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB)

Please note, you will receive a text message the day before your exam takes place. If you have an on-campus exam, this will include your exam room number.

Exam mode A – Remote online non-invigilated exam on Inspera

Exam mode A is for if you are completing your exam online remotely through Inspera and are non-invigilated.

Exam mode B – Remote online invigilation through Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB)

Exam mode B is for if you are completing your exam online remotely through Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB, previously IEP - Inspera Exam Portal). These exams are invigilated.

Exam mode C is for if you are completing an exam on-campus in-person and on paper. These exams are invigilated.

Exam mode D is for if you are completing an exam on-campus in-person and on a computer. These exams are invigilated.

Exam mode E – In-person invigilated exam on computer through Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB)

In Semester One 2024, the university will be piloting an Exam mode E, which will be run through Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB) for some in-person exams on a computer.

To find more information about how your exams are going to be sat, please:

  • Look out for announcements on your Canvas page
  • Check emails sent to you by the University about your upcoming exams. These are sent to your student email. To access your student email, please see Student email
