Programme overview

This internationally-recognised degree will provide you with skills and expertise in sport coaching, physical activity, health promotion and education.

Make an impact on social justice and health issues that are currently affecting Aotearoa New Zealand and the world. Drive positive change in sport and health, addressing issues such as mental health, fitness and food.

The programme is diverse. Choose from courses focusing on coaching, alternative sports, sports media, exercise science, nutrition, gender, sexuality, Māori movement, dance, youth health and others.

You can prepare to meet your career aspirations by choosing one of five specialised pathways:

  • Health education and promotion
  • Sport coaching and leadership
  • Sport science
  • Health and physical education

Programme structure

This three-year programme is designed for students to gain specialised knowledge in one area of interest while also developing a broad general knowledge of the worlds of sport, health and physical education.

In addition to compulsory core courses, students can choose one of five specialised pathways or opt for a range of courses without specifiying a pathway.

To complete a BSportHPE degree students need to pass courses totalling at least 360 points.
