Programme overview
A BHSc/LLB conjoint allows you to complete a BHSc and an LLB in less time, and with fewer points, than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.
This degree will combine a multidisciplinary understanding of health, healthcare and its services in New Zealand with a skill set that meets the high demands of many careers, inside and outside of the legal profession.
Programme structure
The BHSc/LLB usually takes five years to complete. You will need to complete 675 points, including:
- 255 points from BHSc courses
- 405 points from LLB courses
- 15 points from General Education
In your first year, you will take LAW 121G Law and Society alongside three BHSc courses in Semester One and LAW 131 Legal Method, LAW 141 Legal Foundations and two BHSc courses in Semester Two.
You will continue to take a mix of Law courses and Health Science courses in each of your second, third, fourth and fifth years. You will also need to include a General Education course in one of these years.
To complete the conjoint within five years, students must undertake a heavier workload than normal.
The LLB includes a combination of core courses, and a wide range of elective
courses, including Corporate and Commercial, Public, Criminal, International,
Family and Environmental Law.
You must meet the requirements of the Population Health major for the BHSc component of your conjoint.
To continue in the conjoint, you will need to maintain a Grade Point Average of
3.5 each year.
Most students need to take one General Education course.
Students should also be aware of the University’s Academic English Language Requirement.
