  • Beca
  • GHD
  • HG T2
  • Jacobs
  • MRCagney

Who?

Students from ALL faculties are welcome - you don't need to be an engineering student as there are a diverse range of roles on offer in the industry. Last year’s transportation careers evening attracted approximately 200 students from a range of backgrounds including economics, geography, architecture, law, arts, and sciences, in addition to engineering.

Why?

Speakers from a broad range of backgrounds will talk about their transport careers, so you can learn about the possibilities. Make the most of the opportunity to meet and chat to employers over free food and drinks. Employers may be looking to recruit for part-time work or summer internships.

Speakers:

  • Kathryn King
    • Kathryn King is Walking, Cycling and Road Safety Manager at Auckland Transport. She has been leading a transformational change to Auckland’s delivery of cycling through the Urban Cycle Programme since she joined AT two years ago. Kathryn’s team is responsible for addressing Auckland’s growing road safety challenge including a targeted programme of interventions and a strategy to set investment priorities for the future. Kathryn brings more than 15 years of experience from London where she delivered award winning walking, cycling and road safety projects.
  • Bridget Burdett: Principal Researcher
    • National Specialist: Accessibility, TDG. Bridget is a PhD student in driver behaviour psychology at the University of Waikato, where she is studying mind wandering during everyday driving, specifically the prevalence of driving without awareness, and the relationship between inattention and crash risk. Bridget is also a Chartered Engineer and Principal Researcher at TDG in Hamilton. She works in transport research, policy, and design, and likes to understand complex, systemic problems and how to fix them. As part of her work Bridget has an ongoing interest in how the transport industry values inclusiveness, including links between transport and wellbeing.
  • Hamish Speakman
    • Graduate Transportation Consultant – HG T2. He's a geography graduate from the University of Auckland and a previous attendee of this careers event! Read more about Hamish.

We hope this event will reach students and future professionals who might not otherwise be aware of the career opportunities in transportation.
