International students
University of Auckland Accommodation is available for International Students aged 17+. We recommend applying for Accommodation as soon as you accept your offer to study at the University of Auckland, as University accommodation is in high demand.
We welcome applications from international students in the following programmes:
- University of Auckland – any full-time programme
- Auckland International College / Up Education (University of Auckland Pathway programme only)
- Tertiary Foundation Certificate (TFC)
- English Language Academy – ELA (University of Auckland programmes only)
- Study Abroad and Eligible Exchange Programmes (COPOS + COPEX)
There are a range of Accommodation options for first year through to PhD students:
- Waiparuru Hall (first year, catered)
- O’Rorke Hall (first year, catered)
- Grafton Hall (first year, catered)
- University Hall Towers (first year, catered)
- University Hall Apartments (first year, self-catered – option meal plans)
- Carlaw Park Student Village (second year+, self-catered)
- Stuart McCutcheon House (second year+, self-catered)
- Te Tirohanga o te Toangaroa (second year+, self-catered)
- 55 Symonds (second year+, priority PG and PhD students, self-catered)
- Waikohanga House (second year+ couples and families, self-catered)

Application dates
University Accommodation offers fixed-term contracts that align with the University's main semester dates. As demand for accommodation often exceeds the number of beds available, we encourage students to submit their application during the relevant application period to be considered for an offer.

International College / Up Education Students
We recommend first speaking to the International College / Up Education Team about your Accommodation options.
The University of Auckland can accommodate students completing the University of Auckland Pathway Programme at International College/Up Education, provided they are 17+ on arrival.
Please note – University of Auckland Accommodation agreements are fixed length and often do not align with the International College / Up Education term dates. If you are arriving outside of our standard fixed term dates (January or September intake) – please reach out to the Accommodation Solutions Team and we can assess Accommodation availability.
You will need to have a confirmed offer of study at the International College / Up Education to access the University of Auckland Accommodation portal. If you are unable to log-in, please reach out directly to the International College/Up Education Team.
Exchange and Study Abroad Students
If you are on an official Exchange or Study Abroad programme, an offer of place is guaranteed at one of the below residences, providing your application is received by 15 October (Semester One) or 1 May (Semester Two). This is a great way to arrange accommodation before you arrive, for a single semester. Please note we are not always able to offer you your preferred residence.

- Stuart McCutcheon House (second year+, self-catered)
- Te Tirohanga o te Toangaroa (second year+, self-catered)
Please note that we cannot offer Couples Accommodation for Exchange and Study Abroad students. For further information, refer to the Exchange and Study Abroad information.
How to apply
Note: Study Abroad and Exchange students may have different processes and deadlines for Accommodation applications and payment – please check with your home institute or the Exchange and Study Abroad team to confirm if you need to make your own Accommodation Application.
If you will be under 17 when you arrive, you will need to apply for Homestay through our University of Auckland partner provider.
