Tōia ki Waipapa
This programme for Māori students offers an on-campus experience with culturally appropriate learning support to help you take your studies to the next level.
The programme allows tauira the opportunity to take a course under Summer Start during summer school which can go towards your degree. Students who take part in Summer Start - Tōia ki Waipapa get an on campus experience which delivers culturally appropriate learning support in preparation for University.
In addition we also provide:
- Whanaungatanga – A new university whānau
- A number of activities both on and off campus
- A range of course options from the Summer Start Course List
- Academic and pastoral workshops
- Peer mentoring
- An AT HOP Card
- Free summer gym membership
Summer Start - Tōia ki Waipapa will begin on Wednesday 6 January 2027 and end on Wednesday 17 February 2027.
How can I find out more about Kōkiri Raumati Summer Programmes?
Join us for our Induction Day on 7 December 2026 to find out more about the Kōkiri Raumati 2027 programmes, take a tour of Hiwa, our new rec centre and join our application and enrolments clinic in the afternoon.

Scholarships
For 2027 we will be offering Kōkiri Raumati Scholarships to support with fees and encourage you to apply if you are considering studying with us in Summer Start, UniBound or Tōia ki Waipapa in 2027.
Students taking part in the Kōkiri Raumati programmes (Summer Start, Tōia ki Waipapa or UniBound) beginning in January 2027 may be eligible for a Kōkiri Raumati Scholarship to support with fees for the summer programmes.
When you apply for a place in a Kōkiri Raumati programme at the University, you will be considered for a Kōkiri Raumati Scholarship – you just need to meet the closing date for admission to your chosen programme. No separate scholarship application is required.
This year’s closing date is 8 December 2026 and students who have been awarded a Kōkiri Raumati Scholarship will be advised in mid-December.
Please note that there will be a short acceptance period for these scholarship
offers so please keep an eye on your personal and university emails for any offers.
