2023/24 Remote global internship programmes

Are you looking to secure a summer internship abroad without the need for travel?

What are remote global internship programmes?

Remote global internship programmes are unpaid, but similar to standard internships in terms of roles and responsibilities. The main difference is that they are completed virtually rather than in a physical office environment, and provide full support with job placement, and wrap-around support and development opportunities. The internship organisations are overseas, rather than based in New Zealand, giving you the benefit of international work experience and global networks.

Benefits include:

  • Career development through mentoring and employer support
  • Regular engagement with your supervisor and teammates – ensuring you are gaining experience working in a team and learning through others
  • Developing skills for new ways of working through online flexibility and gaining insights into different organisations and industries
  • Webinars with global leaders

Programme options

We are working with three different internship providers this year to bring you our 2023/24 Remote Global Internship Programmes: Next Step Connections, Pagoda Projects, and Think Pacific.

You will not get paid for this internship. The standard programme fee for the service provided by the internship providers is up to NZ$2,100, and the University of Auckland will cover the total cost of this, less a small student contribution fee.

If your application is successful, you will be required to pay a non-refundable contribution fee of:

  • $125USD (approx. $200 NZD) - Next Step Connections
  • $210NZD - Pagoda Projects
  • $100NZD - Think Pacific

This fee will be paid to the programme provider, confirming your place on the programme. You will also sign a contract before commencing your internship. The University of Auckland will then cover the remaining portion of your internship programme fee.
