Fully Funded Geneva Scholarship 2026

A unique opportunity for one tauira to attend the International Institute for Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and Policy, held at the Palais des Nations, Geneva (6–17 July 2026).

Gain global insight into Indigenous Peoples’ rights and policy through an intensive two-week programme, including engagement with UN officials, Indigenous leaders, and participation in EMRIP.

This program is presented by a partnership of the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto (Canada) and the University of Auckland (New Zealand) together with Columbia University Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR), the University of British Columbia and Docip Indigenous Peoples’ Centre for Documentation, Research and Information.

Scholarship

The scholarship will cover economy return airfares, accommodation, course fees and a small daily allowance for essentials to one undergraduate law student in Part 4 or above.

Assessment criteria

Candidates will be assessed under these criteria:

  1. Their proven commitment to Indigenous rights in New Zealand (and any evidence of work or interest in comparative and international Indigenous rights);
  2. Their potential to work in the field of international Indigenous rights in the future;
  3. Academic merit and proven commitment to mana Motuhake and matauranga Māori;
  4. Commitment to te reo Māori me tikanga Måori.

The details

What: One fully funded place to an undergraduate law student in Part 4 or above e.g., LLM to attend the course. The scholarship will cover economy return airfares, accommodation, course fees and a small daily allowance for essentials.
