Practice Area Basics 101 Programme

Are you a law student in Part II or beyond? Are you curious about what working in different practice areas of the law would entail? Want to gain the basic understanding straight from law professionals in the various practice areas? Then the Practice Area Basics 101 programme is for you.

This programme was developed in partnership with the College of Law. The College of Law is a school of professional practice for lawyers in Australia and New Zealand. They are also the largest provider of practice-focused legal education in Australasia. Their mission is to enhance the careers of legal professionals across Australasia through the delivery of innovative, practice-focused legal education and training.

The purpose

The aim of the Practice Area Basics 101 Programme is to ease the transition from study into legal practice through the basic understanding of the various practice areas. The intention is to provide students with a foundation and familiarity with the practice areas prior to joining the workforce.

How it works

This programme is targeted at Law students in Part II and above and would benefit students who are first in the family to study law and have not had any exposure to lawyers. Students who are committed and interested in learning more about the various practice areas are invited to participate.

Some practice areas covered include health, compliance, corporate, commercial, property, criminal, employment, public etc. Please note that the practice areas that will be showcased may vary year on year.

When does this programme run?

The Practice Area Basics 101 Programme runs during Semester 2.
