Launching at the First in Family Panel Event – 17 August 2026
We’re excited to share that Russell McVeagh is launching its inaugural mentoring programme, designed to support law students who are the first in their family to attend university or pursue a career in law. This new initiative aims to provide meaningful guidance, connection and insight into the legal profession from one of Aotearoa’s leading law firms.
The programme officially kicks off at our First in Family Panel Event on 17 August, where students will hear from lawyers who have navigated similar pathways and built successful careers in the profession.

About the mentoring programme
This mentoring programme pairs selected students with Russell McVeagh lawyers who will provide personalised support across the academic year. Mentors will offer guidance on:

- Developing networks and connections within the profession
- Preparing for clerkships, internships and graduate roles

This opportunity is open to law students who identify as first in family, including those who are the first in their whānau to attend university or pursue a legal career.
Students from all year levels are welcome to apply.
