Programme overview

The BE(Hons)/BMus allows you to combine your diverse interests. Supported by leading researchers, artists and facilities, you will develop a balance of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in both Engineering and Music, gaining qualities sought-after by employers everywhere. A technological grounding will be essential as digital environments become more prominent. This programme will equip you to take advantage of the emerging opportunities in the evolving creative industries.

Programme structure

The BE(Hons)/BMus is a five year (10 semester) degree if you are studying full time. You will be required to complete 690 points:

  • 420 points from BE(Hons) courses
  • 255 points from BMus courses
  • 15 points of General Education

Your exact programme structure will depend on your chosen major/specialisation. For BMus, the majority of your courses are prescribed. In the BE(Hons), you must complete a common first year of required core courses before selecting your specialisation.

Conjoint planners are available for each Engineering specialisation to ensure that you enrol in the courses required to complete your programme over the subsequent years. As per the requirements for the BE(Hons), you will also have to complete a 40-hour workshop practice course in your second year and 800 hours of practical experience over the course of your degree.

Find out about the music specialisations you can study in your BE(Hons)/BMus conjoint:

You will need to enrol in a heavier load than a standard enrolment of 120 points a year if you want to complete your conjoint in five years. You will also be required to maintain a GPA of 4.0 each year to continue with this programme.

Most students need to take one or two General Education courses.

Students should also be aware of the University’s Academic English Language Requirement.
