Reapplying for LLB Part II
If your application for LLB Part II is unsuccessful, you can continue with your current degree and reapply at the end of the next academic year. There is no limit to how many times you may apply.
Re-enrolling in LLB Part I courses
Already admitted to LLB Part I?
If you have already been admitted to LLB Part I and passed LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141 with the minimum grades required, repeating these courses is not necessary.
If you do choose to re-enrol for any LLB Part I courses, you do not need to reapply for the LLB (single degree or conjoint) unless you are changing your non-law programme.
You only need to re-enrol if:
- You wish to improve your grades, or
- You have not yet passed a required course
You do not need to reapply for the LLB (single or conjoint) unless you are changing your non-law degree.
Find more information on LLB Part II requirements.
Re-enrolling after passing courses
If you have passed any of the LLB Part I courses and wish to improve your grades, you may repeat them under a Certificate of Proficiency (COP).
Only your highest grade for each LLB Part I course will count towards your LawGPA.
Find more information on how the LawGPA is calculated.
Re-enrolling after failing courses
If you did not pass LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141, you may self-enrol in the course(s) you failed.
If you are enrolling in any of these courses for a third time, you must apply for special permission. To apply for a third-time enrolment, complete the online form.

2026 LLB Part II LawGPA Calculation
Admission into LLB Part II is based solely on your LawGPA.
When reapplying
- If you repeat any of the LLB Part I courses, only your best grade counts
- If you complete additional non-law courses, your recent most, best 60 points will be used in your calculation.
LawGPA components
- LAW 121G – single weighted
- LAW 131 – double weighted
- LAW 141 – double weighted
- Recent most, best 60 points from non-law university courses at bachelor’s level or above (excluding WTR courses and pass/fail courses) – single weighted
Notes:
- "Recent most, best 60 points" includes courses completed in the most recent academic year (e.g., Summer School 2025 to Semester Two 2025)
- If any LLB Part I courses were repeated, only the highest grade is used
Grades not included in LawGPA
- Courses graded as Pass
- Withdrawals (W) from 2023 onwards
Important: If a course is graded as 'Pass' or 'Fail', you must complete an additional non-law course to meet the points requirement.

Waipapa Taumata Rau (WTR) course requirement
The WTR requirement depends on when you began your Law degree or if you change your programme.
If you began your degree:
- Before 2025, or from 2026 onwards - you are not required to complete a WTR course
- In 2025 – requirements depend on any programme changes (see below).
Changing Programmes in 2025
- If you are reassigning 120 points or more to your new degree, you may apply for a WTR exemption
- If you are reassigning less than 120 points, e.g, changing from a BA to a BCom, or from a BA/LLB to a BCom/LLB, you must complete a WTR course
From 2026 onwards
If you change your programme, e.g., BA and LLB → BA/LLB, you are not required to complete a WTR course but may include one as part of your General Education requirement.

Impact on Conjoint Degrees
Reapplying for LLB Part II does not usually delay completion of your conjoint degree, provided you do not repeat courses or change majors.
In some cases, you may progress more quickly in your other degree and complete it before finishing the LLB.
Find more information on Law Degree Planning.
If you no longer wish to continue with Law
If you decide not to continue with the LLB, your completed LLB Part I courses may usually be counted towards another degree.
