Reapplying for LLB Part II
If your application for LLB Part II is unsuccessful, you can continue with your current degree and reapply at the end of the next academic year. There is no limit to how many times you can apply.

Already admitted to LLB Part I?
If you’ve been admitted to LLB Part I and passed LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141 with the minimum grades required, repeating these courses is not necessary.
If you do choose to re-enrol for any LLB Part I courses, you do not need to reapply for the LLB (single degree or conjoint) unless you are changing your non-law programme.
Re-enrolling after passing LLB Part I courses
If you have passed LAW 121G, LAW 131 and/or LAW 141 and you wish to improve your grades, you can repeat these courses under a Certificate of Proficiency (COP).
Re-enrolling after failing LLB Part I courses
If you did not pass LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141, you may self-enrol in the courses you did not pass - unless you are attempting the course for a third time, in which case you must apply for special permission.
Third-Time Enrolment in LLB Part I Courses
If you're enrolling in LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141 for a third time - whether to meet the minimum C+ requirement or because you have not yet passed - you must request special permission.
To apply for third-time repeat, complete the online form.
2026 LLB Part II Requirements
To be eligible for LLB Part II admission in 2026 onwards, you must meet the following requirements:
- LLB Part I Courses: You must pass LAW 121G with at least a C- grade and Pass LAW 131 and LAW 141 with at least a C+ grade
- WTR Course: You must pass a the 15 point Waipapa Taumata Rau (WTR) course relevant to your non-law degree
- Non-Law Courses: You must have completed at least 75 points of non-law university courses at bachelor’s level or above (See below for courses that are excluded from this requirement)
- Overall GPA: You must have passed all eight courses (120 points) with an overall average GPA of at least 3.00 (C+)
Note: Students who began their programme before 2025 and do not have a WTR course as part of their programme must complete another 15-point non-law course instead.
Admission standards are finalised each December and may change from year to year.

2026 LLB Part II LawGPA Calculation
Your LawGPA for 2026 admission will be calculated as follows:
- LAW 121G – single weighted
- LAW 131 – double weighted
- LAW 141 – double weighted
- Recent most, best 60 points from non-law university courses at bachelor’s level or above (excluding WTR courses and pass/fail courses) – single weighted
Note: The "recent most, best 60 points" refers to non-law courses completed in the most recent academic year (e.g., Summer School 2025 to Semester Two 2025).
If you have repeated any LLB Part I courses, only the highest grade for each course will be used..

Grades Not Considered in LawGPA Calculation
The following grades are excluded from your LawGPA calculation:
- Courses with Pass/Fail grades
- ‘Withdrawals’ (W) received from 2023 onwards
Note: If you have a W grade for LAW 121G, LAW 131, or LAW 141 and have not previously passed the course, you will not be ineligible for LLB Part II admission.
Important: If you take a Pass/Fail course, you must complete an additional 15-point course to meet the 75 points non-law requirement (including the WTR course).

LawGPA and Reapplication
Admission into LLB Part II is based solely on your LawGPA.
- If you repeat any of the LLB Part I courses, only your best grade for each course counts towards your LawGPA.
- If you complete additional non-law courses, your recent most, best 60 points of will be considered.

WTR Requirement
If you began your Law Programme before 2025, you are not required to complete a WTR course.
If you have already enrolled in a WTR course, please drop it before the enrolment deadline to receive a full refund.
Changing Programmes in 2025?
- Reassigning 120 points or more to your new programme? You may apply for a WTR exemption.
- Reassigning less than 120 points (e.g., changing from a BA to a BCom or from a BA/LLB to a BCom/LLB)? You must complete a WTR course.
Future Programme Changes (from 2026)
If you change your programme from 2026 onwards (e.g., BA and LLB → BA/LLB), you must complete a WTR course regardless of points reassigned.

Impact on Conjoint Degrees
If you do not repeat any courses or change majors, admission to LLB Part II later in your studies will not delay the completion of a conjoint degree.
In some cases, you may progress faster in your other degree and finish it before completing the LLB.

If you no longer wish to continue with the LLB Programme
If you decide not to continue with the LLB programme, you may usually credit your three LLB Part I courses towards your alternative degree.
