Equal Justice Project
A non-partisan, student-led charity based at the University of Auckland Faculty of Law.
Our mission is simple: to improve access to justice across Aotearoa New Zealand. We achieve this mission by mobilising over 100 passionate and dedicated student volunteers.
These volunteers are split across our six teams to support our kaupapa. Each team has a different focus, all with the goal of enhancing access to justice.
Here’s a quick look at what our teams do:
- Access Team: brings the law into classrooms and communities through school visits and public panel events.
- Advocacy Team: works alongside community groups and legal professionals to push for real-world change through research and policy submissions.
- Alliance Team: stands up for equity in legal education, working to make law school more welcoming and accessible to everyone.
- Community Team: volunteers at Community Law Centres, providing support and information to people who need legal help.
- Communications Team: breaks down legal and political issues for all audiences so they’re easy to understand and relevant to everyday life.
- Pro Bono Team: supports human rights and access to justice work by producing high-quality legal research for lawyers, academics, and organisations.
None of this would be possible without the support of our volunteers, partners, and funders. We’re especially thankful to the Auckland Law School and the Law Association of New Zealand for backing our kaupapa and helping us grow.
