Visiting Scholars

We have greatly enjoyed hosting a number of pre-eminent scholars including:

Dean and Professor Val Napoleon, University of Victoria, British Columbia, Dean. Val is a leading scholar in Indigenous Peoples legal systems and a key player in the development of the groundbreaking joint LLB in Common Law and Indigenous Law.

Te Wai Ariki also welcomed a number of academic and professional leaders at the Constitutional Kōrero including Elisa Loncon, chair of Chile’s constitutional reform process, Kapua Sproat, professor of law, University of Hawaii, and Sara Olsvig, Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Conference.

We were delighted to welcome Professor Robert A Williams Jr as a visitor to the Centre and to teach an intensive LLM course on Indigenous peoples and the law at Auckland Law School in 2020, 2021 AND 2022. Professor Williams is based in the James E Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona where he is the Regents’ Professor, E Thomas Sullivan Professor of Law and Faculty Co-Chair of the renowned University of Arizona Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program. Professor Williams is a world leading scholar in the field of Indigenous peoples and the law and a celebrated advocate for Indigenous peoples’ rights.

We regularly host visiting delegations of Indigenous groups including, for example, from Guatemala, Taiwan and Canada.
