Programme overview

A BA/LLB(Hons) conjoint allows you to complete a BA and the LLB(Hons) in less time, and with fewer points, than it would take to complete the two degrees separately.

This degree develops essential skills that help students to adapt and thrive in a fast-changing, globalised society.

By studying Law, you can arm yourself with a skill set that meets the high demands of many careers, inside and outside of the legal profession. You can complement your legal study with a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, cultures and languages.

Programme structure

The BA/LLB(Hons) takes 5 years (10 semesters) if you are studying full-time. You will need to complete 675 points: 

  • 255 points from BA courses 
  • 405 points from LLB(Hons) courses 
  • 15 points from a General Education course  

In your first year you will need to complete three Stage I core LLB courses, and four Stage I courses from the BA. You will also need to include a General Education course in your first year. You will continue to take a mix of Law courses and Arts courses in each of the following years.   

To complete the full programme within five years, you will need to enrol in 135 points per year, which exceeds the standard full-time enrolment of 120 points per year. Alternatively, you may choose to enrol in 120 points per year over five years, followed by an additional semester of 75 points, enabling completion of the programme in five and a half years (11 semesters).  

The LLB includes a combination of core courses, and a wide range of elective courses, including Corporate and Commercial, Public, Criminal, International, Family and Environmental Law.  

You can choose one or two subjects as your major(s) for the BA component of your conjoint. To find out more about structuring the BA side of your study, see planning your BA conjoint.  

Please note that students completing more than one major may have additional courses, extending their studies.

Most students need to take one General Education course.

Students should also be aware of the University’s Academic English Language Requirement.

Entry is by invitation for high-achieving Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws (BA/LLB) Part III students.

To be considered for the Honours programme in Law, you must achieve a B+ average or higher across all your law courses at the completion of LLB Part III during your BA/LLB. (This is usually at the end of your fourth year.)

Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $9.44 per point, estimated at $1,274.40 for full-time study (135 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.

Becoming a barrister and solicitor
