About the School of Education and Social Practice
The Faculty of Arts and Education's new school structure, which includes the School of Education and Social Practice, will be implemented from 9 January 2026.
The School of Education and Social Practice has been created from five current schools: Counselling, Human Services and Social Work, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Critical Studies in Education, Learning, Development and Professional Practice and Te Puna Wānanga.
The new school is home to the largest community of researchers in New Zealand actively engaged in creating new knowledge in education and social research, vital to the education and wellbeing of our communities and our world.
Within the school, we have internationally recognised experts in curriculum, pedagogy, the place of education and its transformative potential, research and practice in social work, counselling and human services, as well as acknowledged leadership in teacher education underpinned by tikanga, te reo and mātauranga Māori.
Education as a subject is ranked #34 in QS World University rankings, and sports-related subjects are ranked #27.
