Kohia

Kohia, the University of Auckland Faculty of Arts and Education’s professional learning hub, offers online, hybrid and in-person professional learning opportunities for a wide range of teachers and educationalists.

Whether you are starting your teaching career, returning to teaching, a senior school leader or someone interested in upskilling in a particular educational aspect, we will have something for you. Kohia courses are held at the University's City Campus, at our Tai Tonga campus (South Auckland), on the North Shore and in Whangārei.

Kohia is the te reo Māori name for the New Zealand passionflower, which was valued by early Māori because it burnt slowly when dry, enabling them to carry a spark from village to village. Kohia embraces the symbolism of 'carrying the spark' as we strive to support and share the development of people’s learning.
