Nikita Larissa Lucritia Ting – Early Childhood Educator

The Tertiary Foundation Certificate gave Nikita a good introduction to university and confirmation that she wanted to become a teacher. Now she’s an early childhood educator and loves helping children grow.

“I chose the Tertiary Foundation Certificate because it was a great opportunity to get into the University of Auckland and explore the different range of courses offered.

“After studying children’s development, and discovering how teachers can support children in defeating limiting beliefs and growing their self-efficacy, I decided to become a teacher."

The Tertiary Foundation Certificate prepared me for university by exposing me to the demands of a semester and helping me identify my strengths and weaknesses.

“Now I work as an early childhood educator at The Tree House Middlemore Hospital. I enjoy building relationships with the children and exploring their interests with them. As a teacher, I can guide children, while also learning alongside them. I can develop my knowledge of certain topics I had not explored before and find creative ways to extend their learning within their interests.

“The most rewarding thing about my job is being a part of a child’s growth and development, especially in the areas they find challenging; from making friends or regulating their emotions, to comprehending a new topic.

“To anyone who isn’t sure if they want to study, my advice would be to enrol in the Tertiary Foundation Certificate to get a sense of where your interests and strengths lie, and what your area of study may be!”
