About the School of Creative Arts

The Faculty of Arts and Education's new school structure, which includes the School of Creative Arts, will be implemented from 9 January 2026.

The School of Music, the Elam School of Fine Arts, and the Dance Studies programme will merge to form the new School of Creative Arts, bringing together highly respected academics from the three disciplines.

Members of our highly regarded academic staff have received honours, including recognition from the Royal Society Te Apārangi.

Distinguished alumni include filmmaker Niki Caro, author and illustrator Lynley Dodd, Pacific Dance director Sefa Enari, choreographer Michael Parmenter, opera singer Madison Nonoa, violinist John Han and musician Don McGlashan.

The University of Auckland is the highest-ranked institution in the country for Art and Design and is among the top 100 worldwide for Performing Arts (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025).
