Collin Post Sculpture Award and Longveld Plinth Award
The Collin Post Sculpture Award offers Elam students a unique opportunity to design, develop and realise a large-scale outdoor public sculpture at the University of Auckland.
About the Award
Selected students will work alongside leading artists, fabricators and industry partners through a programme of workshops, mentorship, a residency and professional fabrication processes. The winning artwork will be made of metal, and installed and exhibited on campus for one year.
The award provides hands-on experience in public art, collaboration and professional practice, from initial concept development through to final installation.
Who can apply?
The award is open to domestic students studying:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts students in Stage 2 and Stage 3 (including students taking conjoint programmes)
- All postgraduate students (Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons), Master of Fine Arts, Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Arts, Fine Arts Doctoral Candidates)
What’s involved?
Students who participate will have the opportunity to:
- Develop a metal sculpture concept for a public site on campus
- Attend workshops and mentoring sessions with experienced practitioners
- Work with industry partners and professional fabricators
- Travel to Brisbane, Australia, on a funded residency for the selected student
- The winner will see their artwork professionally fabricated and installed at UOA

Finalists will receive support developing proposals. The winning student’s sculpture will be professionally fabricated and exhibited on campus for one year. Taking part in the Collin Post Sculpture Award provides:

How to apply
Students are invited to attend a workshop on 12 March where the award, process and expectations will be explained.
Following the workshop, students will be invited to submit an Expression of Interest. Students who do not attend the workshop on 12 March can still submit an EOI, but attendance is strongly encouraged.

Ten shortlisted students will then be invited to develop concept proposals. Full details and the Expression of Interest form will be shared at the workshop.
