“I studied Mass Communication for my undergraduate degree in Malaysia and always wanted to experience studying outside of my home country to see how media studies is understood differently overseas.

“My father suggested I apply to the University of Auckland because his high school teacher studied here, so I researched the media department and found that the scholars are highly respected in their fields. I took the plunge and never looked back!

“The University of Auckland is a melting pot of cultures with students from all over the world. Whoever you meet will be inspired by you and your passion, so my advice is to be yourself and work hard towards those goals.

“During my time here I’ve tried different courses to pinpoint areas that appealed to me, and my friends and lecturers have helped me realise career pathways to pursue in the future. I would love to continue my studies and to one day teach, and share my passion for media and communications with students.

“To future students I’d say take each day at a time and enjoy these years to the fullest! These times will never come back, this is your chance to turn your interests into something you would like to do in later in life.”
