Kate Jackson

“I decided to become a teacher as my primary school teachers really helped improve my learning abilities, my self-confidence and my general interest and excitement to learn. I wanted to be able to provide that for children in a classroom and give back what my teachers gave to me. I knew teaching would provide me a sense of job satisfaction and make a positive difference for ākonga.

“What I have enjoyed most about the programme is the wider curriculum workshops where we were able to experience different lessons such as visual arts, drama, science, and music. These were lots of fun and made us feel like kids at primary school again as well as being informative and providing us with ideas for our future teaching practice. The Programme is also so collaborative, you get to work with awesome like-minded people and make new friends.

Practicum provides you with the best immersive experience, I loved being
in the classroom and spending my days with the tamariki, their laughter and
energy is contagious.
