“Before I started a preparation programme, I joined UniBound (a five-week academic enrichment programme) after year 13. I knew that it would help me get into University and it did.

“The reason why I choose the University of Auckland was because I knew it was one of the best universities in New Zealand and around the world. I knew that it would help me achieve my goals and ambitions and reach greater heights.

“What I liked most about the Foundation Certificate was that it gave a clear understanding of what going into our degrees was going to be like. It was kind of like a headstart into our degrees."

The most valuable thing I got out of my studies was to never procrastinate
and to never give up — remembering why you’re studying

“The skills that I have learned will help me in the long run in my Social Work degree. Doing social work you need great communication and an understanding of others. The foundation certificate experience helped me understand different perspectives from all ages and different people from all over the world  to value my own opinion and take other people’s perspectives into consideration.

“The most valuable thing I got out of my studies was to never procrastinate and to never give up — remembering why you’re studying. The support services at Epsom Campus are really helpful. They really do keep up to date with you and check you’re OK. The lecturers and support services really do care about our wellbeing. Studying at Epsom really helps because it’s a small campus.

“I would love to finish my degree and go all the way to my honours and masters. I love to be heavily involved in the community and in education. With support and encouragement kids can achieve anything.

“I really cannot wait to start my degree and meet new people.”
