Reapplying for LLB Part II

If you are unsuccessful in your application for LLB Part ll, you can continue with your other degree and reapply for LLB Part ll at the end of the next academic year. There is no limit on how many times you can apply for LLB Part ll.

Students who have already been admitted into LLB Part II do not need to reapply for the programme.

If you have passed LAW 121G, LAW 131 and/or LAW 141, you can repeat the courses under a Certificate of Proficiency (COP) to improve your grades. Please note, if you want to reapply for LLB Part ll, you are not required to repeat LAW 121G, LAW 131 and/or LAW 141 if you have met the minimum grade requirements.

Students who have not passed LAW 121G, 131 and/or LAW 141 will be able to re-enrol themselves. Special permission is however required for a third time repeat. To request this, please email undergradlaw@auckland.ac.nz providing the following:

  1. Reasons why you did not pass previous attempts
  2. Whether you did not submit any assignments and why
  3. What has changed/will change to ensure you pass on this attempt
  4. Provide any supporting documentation for circumstances mentioned

Admission into LLB Part II is purely based on your LawGPA. Students who complete additional non-law courses will have their most-recent, best non-law courses taken into consideration.

Students who repeat LAW 121G, LAW 131, and/or LAW 141, the best grade you have received for these three courses will be factored into your LawGPA. The other grades you have received for the LLB Part I courses will be disregarded.

Find more information on how the LawGPA is calculated for admission into LLB Part II.

So long as you are not repeating any courses, or changing majors, gaining admission into LLB Part II later in your studies does not add time to a conjoint. You may however be ahead in your other conjoint component and complete these requirements first.

If you no longer wish to continue with the LLB programme, in most cases, you can credit the three law courses from the first year to your alternative degree. Contact Student Hubs for further advice.
