Faculty of Arts Student Emergency Fund

A fund is available for all enrolled full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Faculty of Arts who are facing financial challenges.

Criteria for funding

The fund is intended to provide immediate, short term, emergency support for students living in New Zealand who are encountering an unexpected financial crisis that threatens their university study. Doctoral students currently overseas who are unable to return to New Zealand due to Covid-19 will also be considered.

The fund can help with short-term emergencies, such as living costs to cover such things as groceries, AT Hop card top-ups, and textbooks.

The fund is unable to support:

  • Payment of tuition fees
  • Payment of halls accommodation fees
  • Payment of debt accumulation
  • Membership fees
  • Parking tickets and fines
  • Flights

Note: Applicants can request financial support up to $500. The selection committee may consider requests for support in excess of $500 on a case-by-case basis.
