We are a multi-disciplinary research institute promoting research, scholarship and teaching on contemporary Europe and EU-related issues.
The Europe Institute Research Centre is hosted by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland Te Whare Wānanga o Tāmaki Makaurau and focuses on the academic study of Europe: its pasts, present and future. The Institute promotes interdisciplinary research, teaching, public engagement and collaborations across the University, within the New Zealand European Union Centres Network (EUCN), nationally and internationally. It provides a forum for the dissemination and discussion of research and does so in an inclusive environment, recognising the centre’s unique place in the city of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. The Institute also has a distinct public-facing mission to engage in critical analysis around current events relating to Europe, the European Union and Aotearoa New Zealand.
The EI publishes the New Zealand Journal for Research on Europe, hosts visiting researchers and organises seminars as well as roundtable discussions on topical issues.
