We are a multi-disciplinary research institute promoting research, scholarship and teaching on contemporary Europe and EU-related issues.
The Europe Institute at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland is a
place for dialogue, connection, and critical engagement across
disciplines and borders.
We foster inter- and transdisciplinary research, scholarship, and teaching on Europe and/ or with Europeans, bringing together people and ideas across academia, policy, industry, and community. We support collaboration across the University and beyond, and provide a forum for sharing research through seminars, roundtables, visiting scholars, and public events - grounded in our location in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Whether your interests lie in sustainability, innovation, democratic resilience, migration, culture and languages, trade, security, or beyond, we explore how Europe and Aotearoa New Zealand shape one another, and how these connections can open up new partnerships, questions, and shared futures.
We bring people together across fields and sectors to create opportunities for connection and collaboration by hosting events, sharing research and opportunities, and building and sustaining European partnerships. We publish the New Zealand Journal of Research on Europe.
