Music mentor Libby Montgomery

Libby Montgomery

Hi! My name is Libby Montgomery. I am in my third year of study, in a Bachelor of Music - Classical Performance (Voice). I have been involved with choirs for over 10 years. I find so much thrill and satisfaction through performing and creating music with friends, so I decided to grow my knowledge and start the pathway towards a career in music!

After I complete my undergraduate degree, I plan to do my honours degree in music. Long-term, I aspire to be very involved in community performance, performing with choirs and in opera/ musical theatre productions in New Zealand and overseas.

I was born in New Zealand, and I would really love to help you all become familiar with the kiwi culture and what studying, working, and hanging/ going out with friends is like here. At the same time, I am excited to learn and hear about other cultures! Although I have lived in New Zealand all my life I have moved around many times, I have lived in 16 different houses! So, I do have an understanding of how hard it is to settle down in new environments, and I want to be here as a support and a friendly face.

We will organise fun events and social opportunities for students to connect. I’ll keep you regularly updated on helpful events around uni which include careers, language, and more social events! I will also host regular drop-in sessions for academic questions and general help/ support.

I look forward to meeting you. I hope you enjoy your time in Aotearoa!
