“Leaving school, I wanted to become a football coach and the Bachelor of Sport Health and Physical Education degree was an excellent programme to begin my journey. I recognised that it would ground my skills in leadership, skill development, and professional practice.

"Included in the final year of the programme was the study of effective leadership. Combining this with the University's encouragement to tailor my own practice to the strengths of my students greatly helped me in my work with young people. This significantly contributed to me being successfully employed as a Community Youth Worker.

“Learning the habit of research and how to apply it with my own philosphy, along with the pursuit of a career I'm passionate about, is a tool from this degree that will be foundational for the rest of my career.

“I am not sure exactly what the future holds for me, but that doesn’t concern me. I love where I’m currently located and am excited about the possibilities that are open to me. Moving forward, I will always be grateful to the University of Auckland for developing my professionalism and for preparing me to be a success in whatever field I’m in.

“For those who are passionate about making an influence in sport, health, or physical education the BSportHPE is a great option to begin the process. It serves as an excellent foundation upon which to build a career.”
