"I'm a marketing and sales executive at Madman New Zealand — a local independent film distributor.

"Primarily I oversee all of the marketing and publicity for our cinema, DVD and digital releases. We don't have gigantic studio budgets for our releases, so we often have to think outside the square to cut through.

The biggest asset I gained from my Arts study would have to be research skills. That and critical thinking.

"This is an information hungry industry and all that time spent in the University library working on essays has helped me immensely over the years.

"I was offered entry into the Law programme but decided that I wanted to study something I enjoyed rather than a means to an end. The variety of subjects on offer in the Faculty of Arts is incredible and really broadens your perspective of the world.

"Go to every lecture, soak it all in. Pick courses that will challenge you and confront your worldview. Say hi to the person next to you on the first day of lectures, they could end up being a friend for life.

"I left university with lifelong friends, which is worth just as much as any degree."
