Studying English honed Jess O’Connor’s written communication skills and helped her launch her own copywriting and content marketing business.
Programme: Bachelor of Arts
Subjects: English, French
“I completed a Bachelor of Arts in French and English in 2011. I adored studying in the Faculty of Arts. The lecturers were engaging and creative, and their passion for learning was infectious.
“My double major was very rewarding. Studying English allowed me to be creative and explorative in my work, and to hone my written communication skills. Studying French allowed me to participate in a six-month exchange to France, where I became fluent in the language.
“A Bachelor of Arts opens up many job opportunities. Since graduating I have worked as a content writer, assistant editor, web editor, and marketing executive.
“In 2015, I left the corporate workforce to start my own copywriting business, Made of Words. I write for a range of clients throughout New Zealand and Australia.
“My Bachelor of Arts offered me so much more than just a career. It instilled in me an insatiable curiosity and passion for learning that will stay with me for life.”
