The Education and Social Work Student Association (ESSA)
Welcome to the Education and Social Work Association - Te Kāhui Tauira o Te Kura Akoranga me Te Tauwhiro Tangata - a student-run organsation to enhance student life on campus.
What does ESSA do for students?
The Education and Social Work Student Association (ESSA) works hard to make the experience of being a student at the Faculty of Education and Social Work a positive, fun and relaxed experience.
It's an association run by students, for students, and everyone can get involved.
Some of the things ESSA does includes:
- organising social and sports events to bring students together and develop a sense of student community
- providing welfare services such as free soup days, food parcels, free hot drink drop-ins and helping students access AUSA Hardship Grants
- representing students, through class reps, to make students' views known to the faculty
- training and development courses for students
Although ESSA's based on Epsom Campus, it's not just for students in Auckland. It also supports students on the Tai Tokerau and Manukau Campuses and runs events specially for them.
Anyone who's a current student of the University of Auckland can join. Membership of ESSA is completely free and your membership lasts three years.
Signing up is easy. Do it now by filling in this simple online form. Or visit its stall at Epsom Campus during Orientation Week. Alternatively, pop into ESSA's office in N Block, room N335, meet them and sign up at the same time.
ESSA's office is on Epsom campus in the N Block student space, in the back office on the right, N335. The association does its best to have a volunteer ESSA executive member in our office during the semester from Monday — Friday between 10.30am and 2pm.
ESSA's welfare services
Tired of bringing heavy textbooks and resources to uni? Lockers are available for hire. Lockers are located in N Block (Levels 4/5/6) and can be rented out for $10 per semester.
You can secure a locker by filling out the contract below and dropping it into the ESSA office during office hours (Mondays to Fridays 10.30am - 2pm).

No need to wait in line for stickers, you can apply for your tertiary concession online at any time. Just follow the instructions on the AT website to submit your concession online, and load it onto your AT HOP card at any customer service centre.
Do you need things laminated? If so, pop into the ESSA office or send them an email for more information, and they will be able to help you out.
