Scholarships and prizes available to students in History at the University of Auckland.

Undergraduate

Asian History Prize

A prize of $500 for the student who has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to the study of Asian History. 

Auckland Medical History Society Essay Prize

A prize for the most outstanding essay(s) on a subject related to medical history.

Haydon Prize

A $500 prize for the History student who achieved the highest mark in courses or
research relating to the history of Empire or a Commonwealth nation.

Jonathan and Mary Mason Summer Scholarship in Auckland History

A scholarship of $6,750 to support a student carrying out a summer research project in Auckland History.

Judith Binney Te Tomairangi O Te Aroha Prize in Aotearoa New Zealand History

A prize to reward and recognise the undergraduate student who achieved the highest mark and showed the greatest commitment to the study of Aotearoa New Zealand history.

Judith Binney Te Tōmairangi o Te Aroha Prize in Māori History

A prize of $700 awarded annually to an undergraduate student majoring in history who has achieved the highest GPA across two or more courses at any level in Māori history.

Lissie Rathbone Scholarship

A $4,500 scholarship for BA or BA conjoint students enrolled in Stage II History
and/or English courses who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

Nicholas Tarling Prize in History

A prize of $2,500 to reward and recognise the BA History major who has achieved
the highest mark in a Stage II or Stage III course in Asian History.

Thomas Jefferson Prize in United States History

A prize of $300 for the senior student majoring in History who has demonstrated the best overall academic performance in and highest level of commitment to US history.

Tony Cotton Memorial Prize

Two prizes of $250 each to recognise academic achievement in undergraduate and postgraduate study in European History.

Postgraduate

Asian History Prize

A prize of $500 for the student who has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to the study of Asian History. 

Haydon Prize

A $500 prize for the History student who achieved the highest mark in courses or
research relating to the history of Empire or a Commonwealth nation.

Keith Sinclair Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship of up to $14,000 for New Zealand citizens and permanent residents
undertaking a PhD the History of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Medieval and Early Modern European Studies Prize

A prize of $500 for the student enrolled in a BA(Hons) or MA who has achieved the highest mark in a dissertation or thesis in research related to the medieval or early modern period of Europe.

Myra and Eric McCormick Scholarship in History

A scholarship of up to $20,000 for a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
enrolled full-time in a PhD in the History of Aotearoa New Zealand.

N.A.C. McMillan Memorial Award

A $1,000 Award to support a BA(Hons) or MA student majoring in History, who is undertaking at least one course relating to the history of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Rae Hammer Memorial Prize in New Zealand History

An annual prize of $600 for the student who achieves the highest grades in a BA(Hons) in History that involves significant work in New Zealand history.

Theodore Roosevelt Honours Award in United States History

A prize of $300 for the postgraduate History student who achieved the
highest mark in a course relating to the study of United States history.

Tony Cotton Memorial Prize

Two prizes of $200 each awarded annually to the undergraduate and postgraduate students who have achieved the highest GPA in courses or research in European history.
