Augmented Human Laboratory

The lab focuses on exploring ways of creating enabling human-computer interfaces as natural extensions of our body, mind and behaviour.

We call this type of research ‘Assistive Augmentation’. Creating such work poses a twofold challenge as it requires:

  • Novel hardware technologies and interfaces that capture relevant sensory information. There needs to be an understanding of the physical environment they are used to, while at the same time it needs to be unobtrusive
  • A holistic design approach to increase efficiency, support independence and social acceptance to account for real-world applicability.

Our research

We apply the research conducted in the Augmented Human Lab to:

  • Assistive and rehabilitative technology
  • Smart health and wellbeing
  • Independent living for the ageing population
  • Interactive media, communication and collaborations.

These application domains are particular to the lab’s vision of enhancing how we live, work and play. It is also a way of humanising the technology.

Current projects

We have a number of projects currently in progress such as Capamt, Chewit, Cricketcoach, Gymsoles and many more.
