"I’ve always known I’m a city person. Despite growing up in Auckland, I hadn’t ever been able to spend much time in our city’s centre. Auckland is filled with so much musical and artistic talent.

"When I finished high school I knew that was the culture I wanted to surround myself with. Luckily, my experience at the University of Auckland has been exactly that.

"The best decision I made was to get involved with 95bFM – the campus radio station. The news team is filled with other students with interests similar to mine. The friendships I’ve made and conversations I’ve had deepened everything I was learning in class.

Anthropology was completely new to me in my first semester. I hadn’t realised I was so interested in the issues that my lecturers were so well versed in, they ignited my passion and I've grown so much from everything I learnt.

"Paired with Politics, it helped me develop an approach to the world that I use for all of my work on 95bFM’s The Wire, our daily current affairs show.

"I hope to follow a career in the media field, with a focus on cultural and political subjects as much as possible.

"Uni is a special place to be. I was taught by some pretty remarkable people, and I will miss getting to listen to everything they have to teach greatly."

Mary-Margaret was a recipient of a University of Auckland Faculty of Arts Entry Level Undergraduate Scholarship.
