Our objectives

The Auckland Bioengineering institute is a leading bioengineering research institution of world renown. The multifaceted skills required by bioengineering are reflected in the institute’s membership – we come from many different backgrounds and countries. This diversity is due to the nurturing of an inclusive culture at the ABI.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee is chartered to identify, advocate, and support diversity initiatives. This includes:

  • Fostering leadership within the institute that is diverse, responsive, integrated, effective, efficient and sustainable.
  • Advising the institute’s members and leadership team to ensure equity is a focus when deciding on strategies, policy, projects and outcomes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the equity strategy, plans, policy and projects at the institute.

The committee works closely with the Equity Action Network (EAN) and the chair of the committee is also the Associate Director of Equity and Diversity at ABI and directly report to the EAN.
