Tuākana Business: Māori and Pasifika Student Success

There is a Tuākana network across the University that exists to aid academic success of Māori and Pasifika students. Tuākana Business exists for students enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and/or Bachelor of Property (BProp).

Why Tuākana? In Te Reo Māori, the words tuakana and teina refer to the relationship between an older (tuakana) person and a younger (teina) person and is specific to teaching and learning. This programme exists to optimise students' learning experience and their academic journey.

All first year courses are assigned with a Tuākana tutor. Tuākana tutors high-achieving Māori and Pasifika students further along in their academic journey. Group workshops, one-on-one tutoring, study spaces, financial and material assistance, among other things, are offered. There are both physical and virtual spaces provided for community.

All relevant information for each course and all can be found on the Tuākana canvas page.

We also offer Mā te Matatau. This is our one-on-one tutoring that is free and available to fit around your busy schedule!
