Our research hub
The Education and Labour Markets (ELM) research hub uses economic tools to study how education and labour market systems shape opportunities and outcomes for individuals and societies.
Education and labour markets are deeply interconnected: the skills and knowledge individuals acquire shape labour market opportunities, while labour market incentives influence educational choices. The ELM hub conducts applied economics research to study the factors that shape student outcomes, labour market opportunities, and overall economic productivity.
Our research focuses on:
- Student achievement and educational attainment
- Policy evaluation in education and training programmes
- Labor market outcomes, including employment, wages, and mobility
- How economic and spatial factors shape access to and quality of education
The hub conducts rigorous empirical research to improve understanding of how education and labour market systems operate, producing evidence relevant for both New Zealand and international contexts.
