Gaming Habit Hacker

Are you curious about your gaming habits and how they relate to different parts of your life? Join our study to get a free and instant personal report. If you also want to cut down on your gaming, our study also offers free help.

What's involved?

Participation in this study involves the completion of three online surveys on Qualtrics at recruitment, after 4 weeks, and after 6 months. Each survey will ask about gaming habits and overall wellbeing, and take around 20 minutes.

All participants will receive a free and instant personal report of their gaming habits and how it relates to different parts of their life (e.g., wellbeing, relationships, sleep) at the end of the first survey. Participants who have self-identified problems with gaming and want to reduce their gaming will be randomly assigned to an intervention or control group. Both groups will receive three weekly check-ins from a free and professionally trained online coach. The intervention group will also get additional online resources for gaming reduction.

Completing three surveys and checking in with a coach will take around 1.5 hours for the control group. Completing three surveys, checking in with a coach, and using online resources will take around 2 hours for the intervention group.

Participants who want to reduce their gaming and complete both the first and second survey will be gifted a $50 shopping voucher. Participants who do not want to reduce their gaming and complete the first and second survey will go into the draw to win one of the following prizes:

  • 1 Apple Watch
  • 2 JBL Wireless Earbuds
  • 10 $40 shopping vouchers
